Wrapped our last race of the series and our 1st year of racing in the BUDU \ Singletrack Cycles Series this weekend. It has been fun watching my son progress and eye opening how much the folks running the BUDU series and several of the racers give back to the trails. It certainly was a nice surprise to hear the Race organizers giving a nice donation to the 360 Park after hosting a race there or receiving emails of upcoming trail work parties. Overall it was a great experience and plan on returning again next year. I’ve not raced since the Indie Series years ago perhaps next year I’ll join in the fun.
Next year my son will be old enough to participate in the Washington Student League. There is so little racing for his age group that it would be great if the Washington Student League could arrange the schedule allowing racers to attend BUDU races too. The BUDU race schedule comes out in November and the Washington League came out this year in January. Basing it on this years schedule you could attend 3 of the BUDU races then there is a conflict for the rest of the series.
For the last race I captured a few photos of the start then waited at the finish line. I had thought it would be about 30 – 40 minutes based on previous races, this time around the course was reversed and many were out over an hour. My son and I both preferred the longer courses. At least it was not pouring down rain like our last race at Henry’s Ridge.
My son taking 3rd in the series for 12 and under next year he moves up to the 13 – 18yr olds
