Early morning spin at Grand Ridge

In Ride Report by Hawkens

My son and I met up with Walt for an out and back on Grand Ridge. Starting from the Duthie Parking lot turning around a Central Park in the Highlands. Not too many other mountain bikers on the trail, most of the hikers we came across were near Central park. A few puddles, but on the steeper climbs great conditions.

When we rolled back into the parking lot it was packed and many had started parking on the outer edges. If you plan on using the new Duthie parking lot really need to be there by 9AM or earlier on the weekends to get a spot. Prior to the new lot the old one wasn't that big and there were not that many parking at the Cascade School. I am really curious where all these riders parked prior to the new lot opening or did the new lot just bring a lot more over to Duthie to ride. The other thought these are not all mountain bikers and others are using it as a staging area for road rides. Either way cool to see so many bike racks in the lot.

We had cars waiting for our spot, so no chit chat. Loaded up the bikes and then headed over to Mod Pizza in the Highlands Plaza to refuel. Next ride is Soaring Eagle on Tuesday if the weather improves.
