Beginning July 15, DNR will start replacing worn out bridges on some trails on state trust lands in Mason and Kitsap counties. While the bridges are being replaced, sections of the following trails will be closed or re-routed until mid-September or later: Howell Lake Trail in Tahuya State Forest and Wildcat Trail in Green Mountain State Forest
If you have a GPS unit, here’s the coordinates of the bridges to be replaced:
» Howell Lake Trail in Tahuya State Forest
» Section #1: N.47.437811 | W.122.957969
» Section #2: N.47.474064 | W.122.943225
» Wildcat Trail in Green Mountain State Forest N.47.585208 | W.122.787681
DNR staff will be posting signs indicating the specific closures or re-routes.
Bridges on these trails have outlasted their lifespan and are suffering from rot. Thanks to a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, crews will be replacing these old bridges with stronger and safer structures.
