Sunday was great out there. We started at the FSR 23 side which is an adventure. This is the old road that washed out years ago, but you can get through. It has water problems and is very overgrown. Once past the wash outs the trail is good. This trail meets gold as it drops out of the hills. Up to the parking area and up to 3 mile trail. Tread though out the ride was great. With temps and a sunny day this was one of the best times out there. I do recall a huge mistake of the past doing this in late April and it rained. Only do this one in good weather.
The climbs on Dungeness are tough. Plenty of them until you reach the shelter. Wash out area past the shelter was in adequate shape to ride. Upper parking area for the hiking trail was full. Probably a great day up on that trail. Road climb to gold was hot.
Gold descent was as good as it gets. No worries on any of it, staying on the trail that is. Usual blue rotor descent, and the smell of brakes in the afternoon.
