Hiker/Biker designations

Postby danray » Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:43 pm

Why are so many of the trails at Moran SP off-limits to bikes from May to September? It seems like a few more miles of trail, especially on the upper portions of Mt. Constitution would be great riding, but it's so hard to get to the islands and the weather is so iffy in the off season.

The reason I've heard is the area is really popular with Hikers in the summer to avoid Hiker\Biker conflicts it is closed. Wait until till the first week of May and check it out. Better weather, trail conditions and hardly a sole out on the trails.

Yep. That's why. The place is packed with tourists during the summer. I mean, PACKED. You'd be getting off or starting and stopping a lot.
Actually, Orcas is often in the "rain shadow" so the season starts early and ends late up there. April-May and September-October can be "just right out" there.
