Winter shoes

Postby jimba » Sat Dec 12, 2009 10:52 am

Just picked up a set of Pearl Izumi Barrier GTX winter shoes. I tend to be a Sidi guy, but these looked real good for cold/wet rides. they have a built in liner that zips up all the way up over the shoe, and the top has a velcro closure that can be cinched down around your ankle.

Haven't given them a test run as i just got them last night, but there looking very promising!

Let us know what you think.

Every year I say I'm going to buy some winter shoes but I'm too cheap.

Another alternative: Lake MXZ302

I've been riding with them for a few years. I use them for both Mountain Biking and Bike Commuting. Expensive, but oh so worth it.

Brian those look good, look like they might be a bit more substantial than the GTX's

I hope to get out tomorrow. I'll let ya know what I think.

So I gave them a run today. it was probably low to mid 30's at St Eddies. I can tell you right now for sure my feet would have been freezing in my standard Sidi's with no covers on them. That being said, my feet were toasty with no signs of becoming cold. I am very impressed with fit also. I got them a half size bigger knowing I would use thicker socks. not sure if i really needed a half size bigger, in fact, I think i may put a thin insole in to take up a bit of room i have in them.

Overall i would definitely recommend these.
